Regardless of size or shape, boob sweat is a universal experience, but when it’s excessive, it has the potential to ruin even the best of days. If it is not properly managed, boob sweat can lead to:
Although most of us hate sweating, it serves a very natural and biological purpose that is important to keep in mind when looking to managing it. In general, sweat regulates body temperature and boob sweat is no different. For a typical adult, body temperature can range from 97°F to 99°F (36.1°C to 37.2°C).
When body temperature rises, your central nervous system triggers your sweat glands to begin the process of sweating to cool off. When sweat evaporates, the surface of the skin cools, therefore regulating your body temperature.
Boobs don’t necessarily sweat more than other areas of the body; however, their shape creates the ideal environment for excess sweat accumulation.
Your breasts are like two mountains with a valley in between – this is what I call the “golden triangle”. Gravity leads the sweat from the chest, down the breastbone, into the “valley” making sweat settle in the skin folds underneath your boobs where they meet your torso.
The moisture in this area gets trapped more easily and doesn’t evaporate as quickly as other parts of the body might.
Some people may recommend using antiperspirants to stop boob sweat, but I always caution against using antiperspirants with aluminum chloride on the underarms and the rest of the body as it has been deemed a suspicious ingredient. While there is little scientific evidence that links aluminum chloride to breast cancer or Alzheimer’s disease, the long-term health effects from aluminum are essentially unknown.
Fortunately, there is a way to manage excess boob sweat, without relying on antiperspirants.
The key to managing boob sweat is to use a natural body powder, like the sweat powder, to absorb the excess moisture, and create a barrier to prevent chafing and friction. Inspired by highly absorbent athletic chalk, the sweat powder is made with Thessalite 6® Powder Technology that stores excess moisture inside the particles leaving the skin’s surface dry.
Most people would put powder on the underboob area in order to absorb sweat, but this is actually incorrect. As I mentioned before, sweat starts on the chest before it travels down the “valley” of the “golden triangle”. The key is to not only apply powder in the underboob area, but also in between the breasts and on the chest to help absorb moisture before it travels down.
Avoid tight clothes that prevent airflow between the breasts. They will also prevent a humid environment from forming that is ideal for bacterial growth. Opt for cotton, linen and bamboo fabrics that are naturally breathable compared to synthetic fabrics like polyester and rayon.
Most bras are made from synthetic fabrics and are tight-fitting preventing airflow. If possible, go braless as often as you can!
Although this won’t reduce sweating, using an antibacterial soap like the underarm bar, will reduce the chances of excess odor, irritation and infection in this delicate region by minimizing the presence of bacteria. The apple cider vinegar and sea salt in this bar do an excellent job of repelling bacteria and leaving an anti-odor barrier on the skin’s surface during the day.
Boob sweat is a universal experience for women, that can lead to skin and body odor issues if it’s excessive. By applying the sweat powder strategically in the “golden triangle” region and making additional lifestyle changes to allow more breathability in the breast area, you can easily manage and reduce boob sweat for more comfort.
