If you’re looking to switch to a cleaner beauty routine, here’s my number one tip: start off SLOW and swap out products with the HIGHEST toxic-impact FIRST.
If there’s one product that you’re going to swap out, it definitely has to be your CHEMICAL SUNSCREEN. Most chemical sunscreens contain OXYBENZONE which is not only a skin irritant but also a HORMONE DISRUPTOR.
TIP: Opt for a MINERAL SUNSCREEN instead. Unlike chemical sunscreens which absorb the sun’s UV rays and turn them into heat, mineral sunscreens protect you from UV rays by REFLECTING the rays off your skin.
You’ve heard me talk about the NASTIES in ANTIPERSPIRANT at least a hundred times before. But I’ll say it again, the ALUMINUM in antiperspirants BLOCKS your sweat ducts, and it’s also a HORMONE DISRUPTOR that has been linked to breast cancer and alzheimer’s.

3. BODY LOTION
Regular body lotion is filled with PARABENS , PHTHALATES and SYNTHETIC FRAGRANCES – all of which are just as scary as they sound since they are HORMONE DISRUPTORS. Your skin is the LARGEST ORGAN in your body and has the largest surface area, so you really don’t want to be rubbing all those NASTIES on your body.
TIP: Opt for a NATURAL BODY OIL instead to keep your skin hydrated and moisturized.
The average woman ingests about 6 to 8 lbs of lipstick in her lifetime. That’s about the same weight as a newborn baby. So why is this a concern? Many lipsticks are full of SYNTHETIC DYES, ANIMAL BY-PRODUCTS, AND HEAVY METALS (lead, aluminum, nickel, arsenic, etc.) – none of which I want to be consuming, especially unknowingly.
TIP: If you’re going to be eating that much of anything, make sure it’s CLEAN! Opt for makeup brands that are transparent and strict about their ingredient lists so that you know exactly what’s going into your makeup.
5. BODY WASH & SOAP
Some soaps still contain TRICLOSAN, a potential HORMONE DISRUPTOR that is banned in some countries. In addition, most body washes and soaps also contain SYNTHETIC FRAGRANCES, which is also a potential hormone disruptor.
TIP: Choose a natural body wash or soap to avoid the addition of these harmful chemicals.
